TODAY - Saturday 19th October

Predominately dry and pleasant across most areas today with good sunny spells. Some well scattered showers will occur through the day, with rain arriving into southwest counties later in the evening. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, which will later begin to freshen. There is the possibility of coastal flooding due to very high tides.

TONIGHT

Tonight will become very wet and very windy with strong to gale force southeasterly winds developing. Rain in the southwest will extend countrywide with some heavy falls bringing spot flooding, especially to southern and southeastern counties. There is the continuing possibility of coastal flooding due to very high tides. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees.

TOMORROW - Sunday 20th October

Storm Ashley will affect Ireland on Sunday with the peak winds occurring very early in the morning, and again during the afternoon and evening. Heavy rain will clear northeastwards during the morning with sunshine and scattered blustery following. More persistent rain will feed into western and northern areas later with isolated thunderstorms possible. Strong to gale force southwest winds will bring the potential for some disruption, especially in Atlantic coastal areas, with storm force winds off the west and northwest coasts. Coastal flooding is possible due to very high tides. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.

National Outlook

OUTLOOK: Generally dry early on this coming week with just well scattered showers. Very high spring tides will bring an ongoing risk of coastal flooding on Monday, even in the absence of heavy rain and strong winds.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Continuing very windy early on with clear spells and scattered blustery showers following overnight. However, strong to gale force southwest winds will gradually abate. Lows of 8 to 11 degrees.

MONDAY: A quieter and drier day with sunny spells and well scattered showers, mainly across Atlantic counties. Highs of 12 to 15 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds, but winds strong along Atlantic coasts. On Monday night, showers will intensify across Atlantic counties, bringing isolated thunderstorms. Lows of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southwest breezes.

TUESDAY: A similar day with sunny spells and well scattered showers, with most areas dry and fine by evening. Highs of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate southwesterly winds. Tuesday night with be generally dry with clear spells. Lows of 7 to 10 degrees in light southerly breezes.

WEDNESDAY: A breezier day with freshening southerly winds, bringing a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, mainly across southern counties. Highs of 14 to 17 degrees.
