TODAY - Sunday 29th September

Wet and windy today, Sunday, with outbreaks of rain gradually extending northeastwards over much of the country by the early afternoon, heaviest and most persistent in the south and southeast with flooding likely. The rain will be accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds, with onshore gales on southern and eastern coasts. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees.

TONIGHT

Rain will become light and patchy tonight, with mainly dry conditions developing for a time. Further outbreaks of rain will move into the west and northwest overnight. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty east to northeast winds easing and becoming light to moderate northerly overnight.

TOMORROW - Monday 30th September

Mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at first tomorrow, Monday. Brighter conditions and showers will extend from the southwest through the afternoon, some of the showers possibly heavy. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees with light to moderate north to northwest winds.

National Outlook

Overview: Wet and windy today. High pressure becoming more dominant around midweek bringing generally settled conditions. Turning more unsettled towards the end of the week as low pressure returns.

Monday night: Showers becoming isolated on Monday night with clear spells developing. Turning cloudier overnight in the east and northeast, with patchy rain and drizzle developing there. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate north to northwest wind.

Tuesday: Areas of cloud and patchy drizzle for a time on Tuesday, but sunny spells increasing as the day progresses. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a light to moderate northerly breeze. Dry with long clear spells on Tuesday night. A few patches of mist and fog will form in light northerly or variable winds. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees.

Wednesday: Most places dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, but a few light showers will affect eastern coastal counties in the morning and early afternoon. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with light to moderate easterly breezes developing.

Thursday: Dry in most parts to begin with variable cloud and spells of hazy sunshine. Cloud will tend to increase as the day goes on with a few spots of light rain and drizzle developing in the south and west. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with light to moderate southeast breezes.

Further Outlook: Gradually turning more unsettled as low pressure edges in from the Atlantic.
