Met Éireann have produced a collection of weather input files for the thermal modelling of buildings, which will enable building designers to assess the overheating risks for buildings in Ireland more accurately.
In response to Ireland’s changing climate, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage funded this project to update ‘Climate maps and data to support building design standards in Ireland’. The motivation of this research was to produce a suite of these weather input files at representative locations around the country. These new data will support the structural design of buildings in Ireland.
The outputs of this research will benefit a wide range of stakeholders currently collaborating with Met Éireann, such as the National Standards Authority of Ireland and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. This report will also inform policy in delivering key national infrastructures such as housing and building renovation.
The weather files have been generated at 6 locations. These files come in the form of a Test Reference Year (average conditions) and Design Summer Years (overheating events), for both past weather conditions and a range of future climate scenarios. These data provide freely accessible localised information for building designers that was not previously available.
