Overview: Turning milder and more settled with high pressure looking set to dominate as we head into Christmas week.
Tuesday night (Christmas Eve): Tuesday night, Christmas Eve, will bring very favourable conditions for Santa's visit around Ireland. It'll be mainly dry with variable cloud amounts and a few clear spells, with just a few patches of drizzle and mist. Temperatures will be no lower than 8 to 11 degrees in mostly moderate south to southwest winds, fresh to strong in some coastal parts of the west and northwest.
Wednesday (Christmas Day): Wednesday, Christmas Day, will be largely dry and mild for many with a good deal of cloud overall but some bright or sunny spells too. There will be a few patches of light rain and drizzle for some. Another unseasonably mild day, with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in mostly moderate south to southwest winds, fresher for a time in coastal parts of the west and northwest. Christmas night will continue largely dry, and often cloudy for many, with just a few spots of light rain and drizzle. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will be more persistent in parts of the west and northwest, however. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.
Thursday (St. Stephen's Day): Thursday, St. Stephens Day, is likely to be mostly cloudy with patchy rain, drizzle and mist. A few bright or sunny spells are possible too, with these most likely in the midlands and east. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds, fresher at times in coastal parts of the west and northwest. Thursday night, St Stephen's night, will continue mostly cloudy with a few spots of light rain and drizzle. There is a chance that more persistent rain will affect parts of northwest Connacht and west Ulster. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds, fresher at times in coastal parts of the west and northwest.
Friday: Friday looks like another mostly cloudy and largely dry day for many with just a few patches of light rain and drizzle. More persistent rain and drizzle could occur in west Connacht and west Ulster, however. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds. Little change on Friday night; mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle, more persistent in the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in mainly light southerly winds.
Next Weekend: High pressure looks set to continue to dominate, bringing generally settled conditions. Rain and drizzle are possible at times, especially in the west and northwest, and while there is some uncertainty, there's the possibility that it may turn a little cooler but potentially a little brighter.
